Who writes them

The guides on Find a Gay Retreat are written by the team behind Among Our People, an LGBTQ+ community site for everyday living, with flatshares, local friends, travel and a directory of LGBTQ+ and LGBTQ+-friendly professionals. Among Our People was founded by Eric Crespin and is based in Barcelona. The guides are written for gay and bi men, and for anyone considering a mixed LGBTQ+ retreat, whether it's their first or their tenth.

How we check them

Before a guide is published, every fact in it is checked against a source. Laws are checked against official sources such as GOV.UK, nidirect, Spain's official gazette (the BOE) and the US State Department. Health information is checked against bodies such as the NHS, the British Dietetic Association and the US National Library of Medicine. Retreat dates and prices are checked on the organiser's own website, on the date shown in the guide. Sources are linked where each fact appears and listed at the end of every guide. A named person on our team reads and approves each guide before it goes live.

When a guide names a retreat, it's because we confirmed it was running and that its details were published when we wrote the guide. Naming a retreat isn't a recommendation, and we don't run or inspect retreats.

Keeping them up to date

Every guide shows the date its facts were last checked. Retreat dates and prices change often, so we re-check the guides that mention them and update or remove anything that has changed.

What they aren't

Our guides are general information. They aren't medical, legal, financial or travel advice, and they haven't been reviewed by a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser. If you have a health condition, talk to your doctor before a detox, fasting or yoga week, and before any retreat abroad, read the official travel advice for that country.
